CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Learning Stacked Stitches with the Fascination Wrap
Xandy Peters
In this class students will start a stacked stitch project and learn this exciting technique in a way tailored to fit the mindset of a lace or stranded colorwork knitter. Stacked stitches are a type of increase and decrease used to create vertical movement within a row and extreme, wavy stripes without stranding on the wrong side of the piece or the use of other traditional colorwork methods. After an introduction to the basic principles of this technique in class, we will cast on a scarf or swatch and discover how each row of stitches fits together to form a flat fabric. We will learn how to move markers, keep track of stitch count, and to fix mistakes in a stack pattern. We will also learn to weave in ends at the end of each color stripe to save time during finishing. Skills needed: Casting on, knitting, purling, increasing and decreasing, chart reading. Skills taught: stacked stitch colorwork, several increases and decreases, and strategies for avoiding problems and fixing mistakes.
Materials Needed: Worsted weight scrap yarn in multiple colors, and 3 or more colors of fingering weight yarn for those who want to start the scarf project, circular needles with a flexible cord in a corresponding size to your yarn and a few adjacent sizes (metal or plastic needles are strongly recommended), and stitch markers. Optional materials: scratch paper, highlighter tape, and a digital row counter. Patterns are provided by the instructor.
Homework: None!

Intarsia Mixology
Ann Weaver
Intarsia—a method of working patches of colors—doesn’t have to be intimidating, and it doesn’t have to create a snarled mess. In this workshop, we’ll explore intarsia by knitting small, easily managed squares. These swatch-sized blocks with curved-edge and straight-edge shapes allow you to learn the technique and experiment with color. You’ll also have a chance to design your own squares. The squares can be joined to create a cowl, scarf, pillow cover, table runner, blanket—you name it! Skills needed: Casting on and knitting. Skills learned: Intarsia technique.
Materials needed:
Fingering-weight yarn in several colors*
US # 2 needles, straight or circular, any length
Stitch Markers
Scissors
*NOTE: If you’d like to use a heavier-weight yarn, collect several colors of your chosen weight and appropriately sized needles. The size listed on the ballband of the yarn will work well.
Homework: None!
