Description
Andrea Wong has taught thousands of knitters in the USA and abroad to use the Portuguese style of knitting, and is the the foremost expert on the subject. She has traveled the world researching and developing her style of knitting, and bringing that knowledge to knitters worldwide.
In this workshop, knitters will expand their technical skills to include two and three color stranded knitting using the Portuguese style of knitting. The yarn will be fed and tensioned through knitting pins, leaving both hands free to hold needles. Stitches are formed by looping tensioned yarn around the needle using the left or right thumb. This method of knitting requires less maneuvering of needles to accomplish stitches, is fast and ergonomic, and many knitters find that purling is easier than knitting!
We are going to learn how to knit and purl and how to control tension with both right and left hand running the yarn around the neck or through knitting pins. Once we are comfortable with the techniques, we will start purling around, and then introduce a second color. We will discuss color dominance and adding a third and fourth color!
Special skills or knowledge needed to take this class: Students should be familiar with basic Portuguese style knitting skills including use of pins for tensioning yarn. General knitting experience including pattern reading, casting on, knitting, purling, increasing, decreasing and binding off are needed. Familiarity with stranded knitting is helpful, but not required.
NOTE: registrations received after 6/25 must pick up their knitting pins as we cannot guarantee they will arrive in time by mail.
The Workshop will be presented on Zoom. Please familiarize yourself with how to use Zoom. A Meeting ID and Passcode will be provided in advance of the class. There will be a waiting room and enrolled students will be admitted. It’s going to be fun!
