Description
Andrea Wong has taught thousands of knitters in the USA and abroad to use the Portuguese style of knitting, and is the the foremost expert on the subject. She has traveled the world researching and developing her style of knitting, and bringing that knowledge to knitters worldwide.
Most of us are familiar with the German and English methods of tensioning yarn for knitting. In this workshop, knitters will expand their technical skills to include the Portuguese method. The yarn will be fed and tensioned through a knitting pin, leaving both hands free to hold needles. Stitches are formed by looping tensioned yarn around the needle using the left or right thumb. This method of knitting requires less maneuvering of needles to accomplish stitches, is fast and ergonomic, and many knitters find that purling is easier than knitting!
Learn the history and background of this technique, a Portuguese cast on and bind off, how to knit and purl using the Portuguese method, and how to increase and decrease while working with a simple hat pattern designed for the class by Andrea Wong.
Special skills or knowledge needed to take this class: Students should be familiar with basic knitting skills including pattern reading, casting on, knitting, purling, increasing, decreasing and binding off. A pattern for a simple hat and a Portuguese knitting pin are included.
NOTE: registrations received after 4/30 must pick up their knitting pin as we cannot guarantee they will arrive in time by mail.
The Workshop will be presented on Zoom. Please familiarize yourself with how to use Zoom. A Meeting ID and Passcode will be provided in advance of the class. There will be a waiting room and enrolled students will be admitted. It’s going to be fun!
