Casablanca--NEW YARN and a CONTEST!

Cascade Yarns Casablanca

Casablanca is a lovely single ply, worsted blend of wool, silk and mohair. It is softly spun and gently transitions from color to color creating a lovely striped fabric.  It has a slight halo from the mohair and the silk gives it a tweedy appearance. Casablanca comes in a range of stunning self-striping color combinations, from rainbow to denims to neutrals.

The debut of Casablanca includes fifteen colorways, and they're all beautiful.  Long repeats make this an interesting yarn choice for all sorts of projects. I love the one skein Urban Lace Infinity Scarf, and it would be wonderful for entrelac.  Cascade has free knit and crochet patterns for this yarn including the Barred Scallop Cowl shown above in 'Reds.'

LET'S KNIT!

Anatomy of a Repair--Fix It, Don't Rip It!

We are working on a new sample for the shop--a very sweet hat called WHO? which we found on Ravelry.  Everything was going along just fine until we noticed a cable moving RIGHT when it should have been shimmying LEFT.  What to do? Rip out 5 rows to repair what is essentially a 4 stitch error?

Let's fix that thing!

Bulky Yarns--How We Love Thee!

Burly Spun from Brown Sheep Company

 Fall Yarn at its Best!

What's So Exciting about BurlySpun?

  • Burly Spun is thick, it's fast to knit or crochet!
  • Some knitters find bulkier yarn easier to work with than lighter weight yarns.
  • Projects worked with bulky yarn require less yardage than the same project worked in a lighter yarn.
  • Burly Spun yarn traps a lot of air, so it works up warm and cozy!
  • One Skein makes a gorgeous cowl...or scarf, or hat...

So, what is Bulky yarn? What is Super-Bulky yarn?

Bulky yarn is any yarn that's larger than worsted or medium weight yarn. This includes bulky and super bulky yarn.  Bulky Yarn (weight classification 5) is generally yarn that worked on US size 9 to 11 knitting needles (5.5 to 8 mm) with a gauge of 12 to 15 stitches per four inches.  Super Bulky Yarn, (weight classification 6), is worked on needles larger than US #11 (8 mm) with an average gauge of 6 to 11 stitches per 4 inches.

We are  happy to share our new Free Pattern for the Covered Bridge Cowl on Ravelry.  One skein of Burly Spun worked in the round on a US #13 circular needle--this is a fast and easy project.   Stop in to choose a color--The Covered Bridge Cowl makes a great gift!

Friday, October 12th is I LOVE YARN DAY! Join us for a free Covered Bridge Cowl Knitting Workshop!
